SUMMARY:MODERN BAROQUE solo exhibition by Gregg Simpson
DESCRIPTION:Curated by Anna Isopo Presentation by the art historian Martina Scavone \nGregg Simpson’s solo exhibition opens on Saturday\, September 20\, 2025\, at 6:00 PM at the Gallery of the Angelica Library in Rome. The event is curated by Anna Isopo with presentation by the art historian Martina Scavone. \n“Modern Baroque” is the emblematic title chosen by the Canadian artist Gregg Simpson himself to define a specific chapter of his artistic production\, notoriously characterized by dynamic and colorful paintings declined in a variety of styles\, including abstract\, floral\, landscape\, and surrealist. \nThe raw organic energy invoked by the primal forces of nature is perceptible in the imaginative interweaving of shapes and colors\, which\, despite their complexity\, find the key to interpenetration in an often bizarre yet extremely spontaneous\, almost magical way\, as if to recall the mysterious and fascinating laws of nature. And so\, the French adjective baroque\, which from the late 17th century acquired the generic meaning of “extravagant”\, turns out to be perfect to define the peculiar dynamics that reign in Simpson’s works\, starting with the choice of titles. \nA prolific and critically recognized Canadian artist and musician\, Gregg Simpson has exhibited his paintings\, drawings\, and works on paper throughout Canada\, the US\, Europe\, South America and Asia. In Paris\, his work has been exhibited and published by two renowned art historians who were both colleagues of the Surrealist group’s founder\, André Breton. The first\, José Pierre\, included the artist in his landmark book\, “L’Univers Surréaliste” (Paris\, 1983)\, while Sarane Alexandrian mentioned Simpson’s work in his famous periodical\, “Supériore Inconnu” (Paris\, 1999). \nDuring the opening\, a welcome aperitif will be served\, and guests will have the opportunity to meet the artist to discover the inspiration behind his works

SUMMARY:The shapes of wood. A tribute to the art of Codognotto
DESCRIPTION:The wood sculptor: the poetry of matter \nBehind every wooden work of art there is a soul that takes shape. The master sculptor transforms material into emotion\, blending technique\, intuition\, and artistic sensitivity. Every cut\, every stroke of the plane is a dialogue with the wood\, which transforms from a simple material into a story\, movement\, and life. \nThe Holy Protector\nThe patron saint of sculptors and artists is the Blessed Fra Angelico\, an example of purity and dedication to art. His figure embodies beauty as a gift\, creation as prayer\, and the ability to unite spirit and craft in a single\, inspired gesture. \nArt\, craftsmanship and living memory\nIn a sculptor’s workshop\, wood breathes: it is shaped\, carved and transformed. Hands guide the tools with the same delicacy as a musician playing the violin. It is an art that comes from experience and listening to the material\, capable of blending the precision of a carpenter with the vision of an artist. \nRome and its art workshops\nIn the heart of the Ponte district\, between Piazza Navona and Campo de’ Fiori\, in Via dei Pianellari\, is the workshop of master craftsman Codognotto\, a place that has been giving voice to wood and the city for over sixty years. In a space that is both a studio and a museum\, his sculptures tell the story of Rome with graceful gestures and the power of tradition. \nSpecial thanks to those who\, with skilled hands and an artist’s heart\, continue to sculpt the beauty of wood and the Roman soul. \n  \nOpening Tuesday\, 18 November 2025\, 6:30 p.m. \nHours: 10 a.m.–1 p.m. and 3 p.m.–6 p.m.
