In this production, the characters deliberately \u201cdream,\u201d and so the dreamlike dialogue between Marilyn and Coco powerfully evokes references to the plays \u201cLife Is a Dream\u201d by Calder\u00f3n de la Barca, through Pasolini\u2019s \u2018Calder\u00f3n\u2019 and \u201cRosaura\u2019s Dream,\u201d to arrive at \u201cA Midsummer Night\u2019s Dream\u201d with its Shakespearean echoes, and finally to \u201cWhat Are the Clouds?,\u201d Pasolini\u2019s poetic-cinematic work.<\/p>\n
Above all, the ultimate question: What is reality? Is it a dream, fiction, truth, or reality itself? This is the question posed by Norma Jean, the passionate yet bewildered protagonist, to the \u201cmystical\u201d storyteller Coco Chanel: in this age of \u201cmultiplicity\u201d and baroque intricacy, the answer to the \u201ctranscendent\u201d lies in the sacredness of love.<\/p>\n
