Preservation and restoration

The Office is responsible for activities aimed at ensuring the protection and restoration of the Library’s ancient and modern documentary material.

For preventive protection, the Office monitors the environmental data of the book depositories and rooms through the management of digital instruments for measuring and recording relative humidity and temperature values.
It schedules periodic dusting and any disinfection and pest control.
It regulates and monitors the correct handling and use of documents through specific rules and the application of appropriate laws.

It identifies and selects documents in poor condition. Based on financial coverage, it plans, designs and verifies restoration work, which is entrusted to and carried out by external laboratories.
For antique material, the Project Sheet for the Restoration of Library Assets developed by the MiC is completed.

It welcomes training internships.
