METHODS FOR CAPTURING IMAGES ON-SITE AND REMOTELY

The Library does not provide its own photocopying service.
On the premises, you may reproduce material being consulted using your own equipment (smartphones, digital cameras or similar devices) in accordance with the provisions protecting copyright (Law No. 633 of 22 April 1941, as amended) and in a manner that does not involve any physical contact with the item, nor its exposure to light sources, nor the use of tripods or stands.
For statistical purposes, please complete the form available in the Reading Room.

For users who are unable to visit the library and who require high-quality copies and/or for the reproduced material to be posted to them, we recommend using the services of professional photographers. The cost is to be borne by the applicant.

USE OF IMAGES

- REPRODUCTIONS FOR NON-COMMERCIAL PURPOSES

In accordance with current legislation (Article 108, paragraph 3bis, of Legislative Decree 42/2004), the reproduction of works held by the Library for personal study and research purposes, and in any case for non-profit activities, is permitted. The dissemination, by any means, of images of cultural heritage items, lawfully acquired, is also permitted, provided that such images cannot be further reproduced for profit.

- REPRODUCTIONS FOR NON-PROFIT PUBLISHING PURPOSES

Reproductions for non-profit editorial purposes are permitted, subject to notification to the Library of the intended publication via the following form, to be sent to b-ange.fotoriproduzioni@cultura.gov.it

It should be noted that the following are considered to be non-profit organisations:

1. reproductions of cultural heritage and their reuse for publications recognised by the licensing body as being of a scientific nature (chapters in books, proceedings of national and international conferences) and academic in nature;
2. reproductions of cultural heritage items and their reuse in books and journals recognised by the licensing body as having an informative and educational purpose;
3. reproductions of cultural heritage items and their reuse in art catalogues, exhibition catalogues and cultural event programmes with a print run of up to 4,000 copies;
4. reproductions of cultural heritage items and their reuse for scientific journals and Class A journals as listed by the National Agency for the Evaluation of Universities and Research Institutes (ANVUR);
5. reproductions of cultural heritage and their reuse in newspapers and periodicals in the exercise of the right and duty to report news;
6. reproductions of cultural heritage and their reuse for publications freely accessible to anyone without payment (so-called ‘open access’);
7. reproductions of cultural heritage items and their reuse for the production of exhibition, scientific, educational and public information material for exhibitions and cultural events organised by a body of the Ministry or by public and private organisations for the purpose of promoting cultural heritage, carried out on a not-for-profit basis. In the case of requests involving a large number of images, free use may only be granted within the framework of institutional collaboration agreements.

- REPRODUCTIONS FOR PUBLISHING PURPOSES FOR PROFIT OR COMMERCIAL USE

Reproductions for profit-making or commercial publishing purposes require authorisation from the Management, which must be requested by writing to b-ange.fotoriproduzioni@cultura.gov.it
